Note: | In the FCOS, compact objects in different fields of view towards the Fornax Cluster of Galaxies have been investigated spectroscopically using the 2.5m du Pont telescope at LCO in WFCCD multi-slit mode. The magnitude range covered was 19 < V < 21 mag, corresponding to -12.3 < M-V < -10.3 mag. The aim was to spectroscopically determine cluster membership for the observed sources to investigate the bright end of the globular cluster luminosity function of the central Fornax giant elliptical galaxy NGC 1399. The question was whether there is an significant overlap between the LF of the newly discovered UCOs (e.g. Phillipps+ 2001ApJ...560..201P) and the brightest GCs. Our results show that the overlap is significant and consistent with the UCOs being bright globular clusters (GCs). |
