Details on Acronym: FCSS FCSS (Fornax Cluster Spectroscopic Survey)
N: about 7000
Object:? (SIMBAD class: Unknown = Object of unknown nature)
Note:The Fornax Spectroscopic Survey is using the Two degree Field spectrograph (2dF) of the Anglo-Australian Telescope to obtain the first complete spectroscopic sample of the central region of the Fornax cluster. The survey is unique in that all objects (both ``stars'' and ``galaxies'') brighter than Bj=19.7 are measured. We expect to observe two complete 2dF fields, about 6 square degrees or 6000 objects, most of which will be Galactic stars and background galaxies and QSOs, as well as around 100 cluster galaxies. A full description of the survey is given in Drinkwater et al. (2000A&A...355..900D). The type of object could be "everything", as galactic stars, all types of galaxies, QSOs, and even what may be inter-galactic globular clusters in the Fornax cluster. 2007A&A...476...59M: first ref. with FCSS objects.
