Details on Acronym:   WISEU

WISEU (unWISE Catalog)
Write:<<WISEU JHHMMSS.ss+DDMMSS.s>>
N: 2214734224  (SIMBAD class: MidIR = Mid-IR Source (3 to 30 µm))
Note:The unWISE Catalog uses five years of archival 3-5 micron imaging from the WISE satellite to construct a full-sky infrared catalog with more than 2 billion unique sources. The unWISE Catalog now constitutes the deepest ever full-sky catalog at wavelengths of 3-5 microns, and therefore should become a broadly useful data set across a variety of astrophysical applications. Our manuscript describing the unWISE Catalog processing and validation has been accepted to the Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, and the preprint has been posted at: https://arxiv.org/abs/1901.03337

The full-sky unWISE Catalog data release is publicly available online at:
http://catalog.unwise.me

The "un" in "unWISE" (and hence the "U" in "WISEU") references the fact that the "unblurred" coadds which made our unWISE Catalog analysis possible retain the full spatial resolution of the WISE instrument. This is in contrast to the WISE team's "Atlas" stacks, which effectively introduce a smoothing by the point spread function during coaddition, resulting in reduced angular resolution.

In future versions of the unWISE Catalog, we will be sure to explicitly include WISEU names within the published catalog tables themselves.

Notes:The principal author of the unWISE Catalog should be listed as Edward Schlafly.
