DMMapper Catalogues Tutorial (ESAVO)

Tutors: Ińaki Ortiz & Aurélien Stébé

Summary and Objective

The purpose of this tutorial is to ingest and publish a catalogue in the VO. The first objective is to allow a client to query a catalogue using the ADQL language, including the REGION search. Then, try to map the catalogue to the Source Catalogue DM, allowing clients to send uniform queries across different services. The client used to demonstrate this is VOQuest, and the server package is the DMMapper. The tutorial will first be run using the 1XMM source catalogue, and then using the participants data.

Tutorial Main Steps

Environment set up & data ingestion (1:30h)

  • Introduction (context & motivations)
  • Demo of existing services (tutorial objective)
  • Environment set up (Tomcat, MySQL... as necessary)
  • Data ingestion of test catalogue (1XMM source catalogue)

Server config & testing in 2 phases (1:30h)

  • DMMapper config - tables/columns information, deployment
  • Server testing using VOQuest, sending simple ADQL
  • DMMapper config - Source Catalogue DM mapping, redeployment
  • Server testing using VOQuest, sending uniform ADQL with SCDM

Support for participants data (2:00h)

  • Repeat the whole process using participants data with tutors support (ingestion from CSV/TSV file formats, mapping to existing DB)
