Software requirements for hands-on sessions

The following software should be installed prior to the workshop. Installing it in advance will maximise the usefulness of the hands-on sessions, ensuring that less time is spent on debugging individual computer environments. We will provide help during the workshop if needed, but keep in mind that some problems that might arise (e.g. lack of permissions) are best solved on your home institution.

Please install all required software before the workshop. We have tried hard to make detailed instructions, but if you run into problems, please contact your system administrator for support as most of the software packages are of quite ordinary (not VO specific). If you find any inaccuracy or other problems, please contact the LOC.

Common software

For most of the hands-on sessions the following software is required. Note that it is important to have the correct version of the specified software. The tools used in the workshop have been tested using these versions, so while more recent versions might work just as well, that is not guaranteed.

Additional software

Some hands-on sessions require some additional software. If you plan to attend those sessions, please consult each session page for instructions:

Detailed instructions

Please follow the instructions that apply to your platform. If you already have some of the software installed, please read the instructions to make sure the configuration is as defined for the workshop:

Test Package

A test package was prepared to check that your environment is setup as expected for the workshop sessions. If the required software is already installed on your system, there is no need to follow the installation instructions (above) as long as the test is successful.

Virtualisation

A virtual machine for VirtualBox containing all required software will be released soon.
