Note: | The "All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae" (ASAS-SN or "Assassin") is a long-term project to monitor the whole sky with a 2-3 day cadence using a global network of telescopes with a modular design of commercially available telephoto lenses and CCDs. The focus of the survey is to find nearby supernovae (SNe) and other transient sources. ASAS-SN carries out a full-sky, fast cadence, bright, relatively low-cost survey. ASAS-SN finds and characterizes the closest and brightest transients, and these are the transients that are most easily studied in detail in order to understand their astrophysical properties. http://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~assassin/index.shtml |
Notes: | ASAS-SN is currently the leading discoverer of Supernovae brighter than 17th magnitude. (please see: http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/supernova.html) A list of our transients can be found here: http://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~assassin/transients.html |
